Army's New ACU's By Austin Hoopes April 2005 the United States Army started the authorized wear of the new Army Combat Uniform (ACU).It is the new pattern called Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP). I have now been wearing it for 3 years. I have found that it is comfortable. I have created the following pros and cons to the ACU: Pros 1. No need to iron 2. No Sewing required 3. Comfortable Cons 1. The velcro is horrible. Easily gets dirty and they wear out fast. 2. Shoulder velcro squares are too big for most patches. Too much velcro is showing and easily gets stuck on things. 3. The pants and shirt fade at different rates and so they look funny worn together after one has faded faster than the other. Overall the new ACU isn't a bad uniform. The velcro problem needs to be fixed fast. Other than that it is nice not to have to polish boots and iron the uniform.
